Logline Friday - A Brief Explanation
Logline Friday is a weekly online contest to help you practice condensing your screenplay into 140 characters.
(Not sure what a logline is? Check out this list of Logline Friday Winners)
When will you need to write a logline? For your query letter, and also, oh, I don't know, how about ALL THE TIME.
When someone casually asks you what you are working on, knock them out with a compelling two sentence tease and they'll beg to read your work.
Maybe the person can help you sell your screenplay, maybe they can't. But the more fans you have in your corner, the better off you'll be in the long run.
And screenwriting is all about the long run.
So here are the rules:
EVERY FRIDAY post your BEST logline on Twitter. (Limit THREE per person) Be sure to throw an "@scriptdreric" in front of each one so I can find it.
If you need two tweets per logline, that's fine - 280 characters is still fair game.
More comfortable emailing it? I can do that. Send loglines to: scriptdoctoreric@gmail.com
Winners will be announced every Monday on the site. And in case you needed more incentive beyond a little internet fame, the winner of Logline Friday will also win a prize.
(Prize for Friday, July 30th: Free notes on the first five pages of your script from me, Script Doctor Eric!)
If you don't win this time, you're welcome to submit the same logline the following Friday...but you might want to spruce it up a bit.
Seriously.
And...
Onward!
-Eric
